Minister for Information and Communications Bikram Timilsina has directed that telephone and internet services be provided immediately in the Badimalika area of Bajura. Expressing concern over the telephone problems in the tourist area of Badimalika, Minister Timilsina has instructed Nepal Telecom to provide services without delay.
As it is not possible to transport goods to Badimalika by road network, the minister has suggested making arrangements to transport goods by helicopter. In the discussion held on Friday, Nepal Telecom committed to bringing telephone service into operation within the month of Shrawan. According to Nepal Telecom, equipment for the construction of the telephone tower has already been transported as far as Dhangadhi, Kailali, and if a helicopter from the Nepali Army is made available, the work can be completed quickly.
The Ministry of Communications has stated that continuous coordination is ongoing with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding the construction of telecommunications mobile towers in various parts of the country. On Friday itself, Minister Timilsina also held discussions with the Prime Minister's Information, Communication, and Technology Advisor, Vivek Mishra, to expedite the expansion of telephone and internet services as soon as possible in Badimalika and other tourist and remote areas. The discussion with Mishra also covered the topics of shutting down online betting apps and controlling online fraud.
Nepal Telecom is working in line with the government's commitment to expand internet services in Nepal's remote geography. The goal is to immediately provide 4G service in the Badimalika temple area of Bajura (at an altitude of 4,200 meters). Nepal Telecom has also stated that studies are underway to expand 4G service to the Everest Base Camp area.
