The Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies has decided that if the government does not withdraw its action against 598 manpower companies, it will stop sending new workers abroad after 15 days. This decision was made at a meeting of business owners called by the association on Thursday. The meeting presented a 15-point memorandum to the government, demanding that the issues be addressed within 15 days.
Association president Dik Bahadur Karki claimed that the government took action against the manpower companies when they complied with government decisions under special circumstances. During the fuel price hike and the West Asia war, among the 598 manpower companies sending workers via Indian airports, the government had fined and warned some of them.
In its memorandum, the association has also demanded solutions to various issues related to foreign employment service fees, institutional management, monitoring systems, obstacles in the process of sending workers, and problems faced by business owners.
The association has called for the creation of a conducive environment for operating businesses in accordance with the Foreign Employment Act 2007 and its regulations, the removal of unnecessary administrative hassles, and an end to discriminatory treatment of business owners. Similarly, the association has urged that monitoring and action by the Department of Foreign Employment and related bodies be made transparent and practical.
The memorandum also includes issues such as making the implementation of labor agreements with various countries more effective, classification of foreign employment agencies, license renewal, and a review of arrangements related to bank guarantees and deposits.
According to the association, if the demands submitted to the government are not addressed within 15 days, it has been decided to suspend the process of labor approval for new workers and the sending of workers abroad for foreign employment.
