The government has appointed Ram Prasad Dhital of Sindhupalchok as the Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Commission. The Secretariat of Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has informed that Dhital has been appointed as the Chairperson of the commission, which had been without leadership for nearly three months.
The commission had been leaderless for about three months after the office bearers were automatically relieved of their positions in accordance with the 'Special Provision Ordinance on the Dismissal of Public Office Bearers 2083' issued by the government in Baisakh.

While the commission was without leadership, about 40 employees were unable to receive their salaries. It was only after Energy Minister Shrestha granted financial authority for the month of Asar that the commission's employees received their salaries. Similarly, daily tasks such as the approval of promoters' initial public offerings (IPOs), rights share approvals, and changes in share structure had been stalled.
The recommendation committee for the Chairperson was formed under the coordination of Ministry Secretary Sarita Dawadi, with Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Sagar Raj Gautam and energy expert Satish Narayan Joshi as members.
The candidates for Chairperson were Eng. Rudra Prasad Gautam, Keshav Adhikari, Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital, Rameshwar Prasad Kalwar, Madhu Prasad Bhetwal, Moti Bahadur Kunwar, Dr. Madhusudhan Adhikari, Dr. Bholanath Sharma Adhikari, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, and Dr. Shantikala Subedi.
Dhital has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of energy, electricity regulation, hydropower, and renewable energy. He has also served as the Executive Director of the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre for four years.
He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering (1997) from the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University, a master's degree in renewable energy engineering from the University of Oldenburg, Germany, and a PhD in renewable energy engineering from Pulchowk Campus.
