At a time when there is a shortage of chemical fertilizer across the country, DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) fertilizer imported by Agriculture Inputs Company Limited has started entering through the Birgunj border point. On Wednesday morning, the first railway rack carrying about 2,500 metric tons of DAP fertilizer arrived at the Sirsiya Dry Port in Birgunj.
According to Durgaprasad Pandey, head of the Birgunj Regional Office of Agriculture Inputs Company, this is a consignment under consignment number 154. Under this, the contract to supply a total of 30,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer has been awarded to the Indian company IPL. The company purchased the fertilizer from Russia and sent it to Nepal via Kolkata port.
According to him, another railway rack will arrive in Birgunj by Thursday morning or evening. Under this consignment, 11,500 tons of fertilizer will be provided to Birgunj, 10,000 tons to Bhairahawa, and 8,500 tons to the Biratnagar Regional Office. The share for Bhairahawa will also be transported via Birgunj, while the fertilizer allocated for Biratnagar will be sent directly by truck from Kolkata.
Meanwhile, 60,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer imported by Agriculture Inputs Company has also arrived at Kolkata port. According to Pandey, the urea fertilizer under consignment numbers 150 and 155 has been imported through the Singapore-based Aditya Birla Company. The first 30,000 tons of fertilizer was brought from Qatar and the second 30,000 tons from Oman.
Currently, the process of packing the urea fertilizer into bags is underway at Kolkata port. The fertilizer destined for Bhairahawa and Biratnagar has already started entering Nepal through the respective border points, while the fertilizer allocated for Birgunj is being prepared to be brought by rail.
Of the total 60,000 tons of urea fertilizer, the Birgunj Regional Office will receive 23,000 tons, Bhairahawa 20,000 tons, and Biratnagar 17,000 tons.
Agriculture Inputs Company has stated that distribution will begin immediately in the respective districts once the fertilizer is received.
