Nepal's gold and silver industry has entered the digital era. During a program organized on Tuesday, the Nepal Gold, Silver, Gems and Jewellery Federation launched a website and mobile app related to the business.
At the program, Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal expressed confidence that the digital initiative launched by the federation will make a significant contribution to making the gold and silver industry modern, transparent and systematic. President Agrawal mentioned that the gold and silver industry is not just a business but a living heritage linked to Nepali history, culture, tradition, art and civilization. He believed that 'Made in Nepal' jewelry can create a unique identity in the global market if the skills, original art and traditional designs of Nepali artisans are combined with modern technology, branding and the international market.
He said that as the price of gold continues to increase in the global market, it has had both positive and negative effects on the business. He said that the government's decision to increase the tax on the sale of jewelry made of gold and silver by 0.5 percent through the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 will create more pressure on legitimate businesses. He emphasized on expanding the tax scope, effective tax administration and controlling illegal transactions.
Federation President Kisan Sunar said that the website and mobile app have been launched with the aim of making the traditional gold and silver business modern, systematic and technology-friendly. He informed that the aim is to connect the federation, state and district associations on a single digital platform and make member details, information flow, administrative work and data management easier through technology.
According to him, through the new system, each district and state association will operate its own website, while membership renewal, identity cards, certificates and other administrative services will be available through digital means. He said that the cost of sending information via SMS will also be significantly reduced.
According to President Sunar, through the mobile app, members will be able to post details of goods and services they buy or sell, establish direct business contacts between businessmen, analyze past prices of gold, silver and US dollars, and prepare estimated bills in a few seconds and send them to customers' WhatsApp.
The Federation has expressed confidence that this digital platform will play an important role in member services, market information, business transparency, trade promotion, and connecting the Nepali gold and silver industry with the international market.
