The country's second largest Bhairahawa Customs Office has collected Rs 105.2 billion in revenue in the fiscal year 2082/083. This collection is 92.4 percent of the target of Bhairahawa Customs.

According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, the target was to collect Rs 101.67 billion in revenue in the fiscal year 2082/083.

Compared to the previous fiscal year 2081/082, revenue has been collected by 13.2 percent in the fiscal year 2082/083. Harihar Poudel, head of the Bhairahawa Customs Office, said that Rs 92.31 billion was collected in the previous fiscal year.

‘This time, the revenue collection should be considered good overall,’ said Poudel, ‘Even though many freight vehicles are changing the Bhairahawa checkpoint due to excessive traffic jams, overload fines, etc., it is good to collect this revenue.’

According to him, Bhairahawa Customs has received the highest revenue from the import of automobiles. Automobiles contribute about 25 percent to the total revenue collection. The second contribution is about 13 percent from the import of iron rods, including raw materials such as sponge iron, and about 8 percent from the import of petroleum products.

In 2082/083, the Customs Department set a target of collecting Rs 588 billion in revenue, and Bhairahawa Customs was given the responsibility of 19.3 percent of the target. In the current fiscal year 2083/084, Bhairahawa Customs has achieved a revenue collection target of 122 billion rupees. In terms of revenue collection, Bhairahawa Customs is the second largest customs after Birgunj.
