The Tatopani border crossing, which has been blocked for three days, has been reopened since Thursday evening. The Kodari road section, which was blocked after a landslide in Liping on Monday and the road collapsed in the Eco and Daklang areas, has been repaired.
According to Rajesh Bhandari, a member of the Nepal Himalayan Cross-Border Chamber of Commerce, the container movement has started after the road in Liping, Daklang and Eco areas became operational one-way. 'The border crossing became operational after the road opened in the evening. If there is no problem of landslides or road collapse again at night, regular traffic will be operated,' he said.
When the road was blocked, about 150 containers carrying apples, oranges, ginger, ready-made goods and various equipment from China were waiting to cross the Kodari border crossing. More than 45 containers loaded with goods worth crores of rupees were also stopped at various places in China, including Nyalam. With the opening of the road, those containers have started entering Nepal in droves.
The Tatopani border crossing, which was in regular operation until Asad 27, was closed after the first heavy rain of the year. After the continuous rain, a landslide occurred in the border area of Liping, and the risk of the road in the eco zone flowing towards the Bhotekoshi River has increased.
Narayan Dutta Bhandari, Chief of the Road Division Office, Charikot, said that although the repair work became challenging due to the continuous rain in the eco zone, they were able to bring the road into operation on Thursday. He informed that the road is still at risk as the rain continues and necessary precautions have been taken.
