The Special Court has acquitted 18 individuals, including former Managing Director of Nepal Telecom Company Limited, Sunil Paudel, in a corruption case.
The bench of Special Court judges Narayan Prasad Paudel and Bidur Koirala acquitted all the defendants on Thursday. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had filed the case at the Special Court, alleging large-scale financial irregularities and collusion in the process of upgrading Nepal Telecom's billing system.
The Commission had accused the defendants, including then Managing Director Paudel, of abusing their positions and causing significant losses to the state treasury. The Commission had claimed a total loss of 330 million rupees against the defendants involved in the corruption case.
The acquitted defendants include Sunil Paudel, Sangita Pahadi alias Sangita Aryal, Pratibha Vaidya alias Pratibha Shrestha, Rajendra Shrestha, Jhavindralal Upadhyay, Devendra Khatiwada, Binita Shrestha, Amul Pradhan, Rajiv Kumar KC, Hemprabha Karn alias Hemprabha Rampratap Karn, Nawal Chaudhary, Muktiprasad Aryal, Santosh Kumar Shrestha, Paramatma Bhattarai, among others.
