Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that the government is committed to removing the country from the Financial Action Task Force (FATA) 'grey list'.
Proposing in today's meeting of the National Assembly that 'the Prevention of Money Laundering (Third Amendment) Bill, 2083 BS, received with a message from the House of Representatives, be considered,' he said that everyone's full support is necessary to remove the country from the list. He also mentioned that Nepal will effectively move forward with an agenda on all the issues to be addressed in this regard.
Finance Minister Wagle urged for cooperation considering the seriousness of the matter as Nepal is likely to be blacklisted if the suggestions given by FATA are not implemented. He stated that they are committed to fully implementing the suggestions given by FATA after the formation of the current government.
Nepal has been on the 'grey list' since Falgun 2081 BS. The proposal presented by Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has been unanimously approved by the assembly meeting.
Earlier in the meeting, the MPs had stressed the need to enrich the various provisions of the bill with a clearer explanation on the issue of money laundering. They said that the bill should be sent to the relevant committee for discussion and a common opinion should be formed. Suresh Ale Magar, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Bishnukumari Sapkota, Roshni Meche, Somnath Portel had expressed their views.
