Hundreds of tourists have been stopped at the border after the Armed Police Force's BOP tightened restrictions on Indian tourist vehicles entering Nepal through the Thori border checkpoint in Parsa. According to Thori Jungle Resort operator Sudip Thapa, the Armed Police Force's BOP in Thori has completely banned motorcycles and four-wheelers with Indian license plates from entering Thori since Friday.

Indian tourist vehicles have been stopped across the Thutekhola bridge in the border area after they were not allowed to enter Nepal. There is no public transport from there to reach Thori Bazaar. Due to this, a large number of Indian tourists have been stranded after crossing the bridge, Thapa said.

Since Indian tourist vehicles have not been allowed to enter Nepal, Thori's tourist destinations, hotels and resorts have become deserted. Thapa said that tourism here depends on Indian tourists. Tourism entrepreneurs here are worried after the ban on Indian tourist vehicles has been imposed when more than 500 million rupees have been invested in Thori's tourism sector. Entrepreneur Thapa said that Thori's tourist area is barely 4 km long.

When the Armed Police Force post inquired about this, Thapa said that instructions were given from above to prevent Indian vehicles from entering Nepal. Earlier, problems in the operation of the Thori checkpoint and customs management had also affected the tourism business in the region. He said that turning away tourists from the border while there was talk of a tourism-friendly policy raised questions about the government's policy of tourism promotion.

Mohan Singh Chhetri, Superintendent of Police of the Armed Police Force, Parsa, said that strict measures have been taken not only at the Thori checkpoint but also at checkpoints such as Bhishwa and Dhore in the district. He said that the strict measures were taken because Indian vehicles enter Nepal without permission and some Indians are causing problems in the security arrangements.
