The government is set to move forward with the process of converting the national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation into a company model. Issuing a congratulatory message on the occasion of the corporation's 68th anniversary, Prime Minister Balendra Shah has made public the plan to convert the corporation into a company for managerial reform and strategic partnership.

Prime Minister Shah, quoting point 16 on page nine of the annual budget statement for the upcoming fiscal year, said in the congratulatory message, 'We will convert Nepal Airlines Corporation into a company and identify the appropriate method for management reform and strategic partnership. The government will soon take necessary steps to make this plan meaningful.'

The Prime Minister has made it clear that the government is seriously concerned about the questions that arise from time to time regarding good governance within the corporation. He has alerted everyone associated with the corporation to perform their duties keeping in mind the main points of the government's good governance plan. 'I would like to emphasize on improving our working style to make the ongoing work more effective, efficient, customer-friendly and professionally self-reliant,' the Prime Minister's message states.

Informing that the government is conducting a detailed study and analysis to make the airline safe, reliable and professional, Prime Minister Shah said that the Corporation itself, as the country's leading airline, should take the lead in reforming. He clarified that the first step for reforming the Corporation is for the officers and employees to fully discharge their responsibilities and that the Government of Nepal is always ready to make the necessary policy arrangements and resource management for that.
