Nepal Airlines Corporation's Kathmandu-Japan (Narita) regular flight was canceled on Tuesday night due to technical problems. The flight cancellation, which occurred the night before the corporation celebrated its 68th anniversary, affected 502 passengers on both sides.

255 passengers were preparing to depart for Narita, Japan on the corporation's flight number RA 433. The flight was canceled after a technical fault was detected in the aircraft while the passengers were being boarded and final preparations were being made for the flight. According to an employee of the corporation, the flight was postponed after a problem was detected in the aircraft's flight control system. After that, all passengers in Kathmandu were accommodated in a hotel at the airport overnight.

Meanwhile, the return flight number RA 434, which was supposed to come to Kathmandu from Narita, Japan, has also been affected. The corporation has stated that arrangements have been made to accommodate 247 passengers of that flight in a hotel in Japan.

The flight was scheduled to be operated by the corporation's wide-body Airbus A330 (9N-ALJet) aircraft. A director of the corporation said that although the corporation has another wide-body aircraft, it is not possible to immediately operate an alternative aircraft as it is on regular flights in the Doha sector.

Corporation spokesperson Archana Khadka informed that the aircraft is undergoing maintenance and that the affected passengers will be sent to Japan on Wednesday after the technical problem is resolved.

The incident of the cancellation of international flights due to technical reasons the previous night, while the national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation was celebrating its 68th anniversary on Wednesday, has once again raised questions about the corporation's operational capacity and alternative aircraft management. When a problem occurs in one wide-body aircraft, hundreds of passengers have had to suffer because an alternative cannot be provided immediately as the other aircraft is at another destination.
