Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that the international community is closely studying Nepal's money laundering issues. Minister Wagle clarified that legal amendments have been made to face the challenge of Nepal getting out of this kind of 'black spot'.

He said this during a discussion on the proposal to consider the 'Prevention of Money Laundering (Third Amendment), Bill 2083' in today's meeting of the National Assembly. The proposal has been unanimously approved.

He informed that the concerned bodies are also working to remove Nepal's aviation sector from the 'black list' kept by the European Commission and said that the government is ready to effectively implement existing laws and policies.

Responding to the questions raised in the discussion, Minister Wagle also said that no one will be investigated in a selective manner. 'No one will be investigated in a selective manner with political motives,' he said.

The MPs stressed the need for stricter laws to control illicit wealth, impartial investigations without discrimination against those who have acquired illicit wealth, and initiatives to remove Nepal from the ‘grey list’ of money laundering.

MPs Bishwaraj Pokharel, Vidushi Rana, Parasmani Gelal, Aren Rai, Chandramohan Yadav, and Geeta Gurung participated in the discussion.

The bill, which was brought to replace the ordinance, was approved when it was submitted for decision after a theoretical discussion.
