A new tourism project has been launched between China and Nepal with the aim of bringing high-end Chinese tourists to Nepal throughout the year. This is expected to reduce the 'off-season' problem of tourists in Nepal, keep the hotel and tourism business running throughout the year, and create 500 to 1000 jobs.
The 'China-Nepal Exploration Journey' international cultural-tourism project was launched in Kathmandu on Sunday in a program attended by the Bagmati Province Ministry of Tourism, Department of Tourism, and Nepal Tourism Board. The organizer has stated that a direct Shenzhen-Kathmandu charter flight will be operated regularly through Himalaya Airlines to bring high-end Chinese tourists. According to this project, there will be two charter flights every week. The goal is to bring more than 18,000 high-level Chinese tourists to Nepal through 104 flights throughout the year.
According to the organizer, the project will not be limited to Shenzhen alone. Within the next 3 to 5 years, regular charter flights will be operated from major cities in China including Nantong, Shijiazhuang, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Qingdao. After that, there is a plan to bring 100,000 to 120,000 Chinese tourists to Nepal annually. The project is expected to reduce the 'off-season' problem of tourism in Nepal. With the influx of tourists throughout the year, hotels, restaurants, transportation, travel agencies, tour guides and handicraft-related businesses are expected to generate continuous income.
A special 7-day and 6-night tour package has been prepared for Chinese tourists coming to Nepal. It includes Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Nagarkot. Tourists will be provided with 4 types of special packages based on mountain trekking, cultural heritage study, health and leisure tourism and China-Nepal cultural exchange. Each team will have a Chinese tour leader and a local Chinese-speaking guide. At the event, Bagmati Province Tourism Minister Suresh Shrestha expressed confidence that the project would take Nepal-China tourism cooperation to a new height. He said that regular air connectivity and quality services will play an important role in increasing Chinese tourists in Nepal. Huang Lei, coordinator of the China Tibet Tourism and Irish Tourism Cultural Industry Group, said that their goal is long-term tourism development and local employment expansion rather than short-term business. Zhou Enyong, chairman of Himalaya Airlines, said that the Shenzhen-Kathmandu direct flight will easily connect the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau region of China with Nepal. At the event, the organizers handed over the official flag of the 'China-Nepal Exploration Journey' project to the concerned parties and announced the formal advancement of tourism cooperation between the two countries.
