The flood-damaged BP Highway will be opened to traffic from mid-Ashar. In many places, gravel work is being done and in some places, large stones are being placed to prepare the road for the rainy season.

Currently, a diversion has been created on the Roshi River and vehicles are being driven. The floods have caused problems in vehicle movement from time to time. The diversion has been washed away by the floods and vehicles are being driven again temporarily.

Suman Yogesh, the head of the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, said that preparations are being made to operate vehicles from mid-Ashar on the new track being built in view of the rainy season. ‘We are still in a position to be able to drive vehicles from above in four places. The track and road have not been opened to stop the work because the monsoon has not yet occurred,’ he said, ‘If the flood comes, and the vehicles cannot be driven from the diversion of the river below, we will start driving from above.’

Yogesh says that a section of Charsaybensi, Boksikuna, Kaldhunga and Dalabensi has been completed. ‘If there is a flood elsewhere, there is no situation where vehicles will stop,’ he said. ‘The section to be built by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is being filled with soil and boulders (large stones). There is no need to drive vehicles from the river in this section during the monsoon.’

Yogesh explained that since the work on the road built above the river is stopped, the work on that section is being driven from the river until the monsoon starts. ‘The foundation of the RCC wall is being completed and work on it is being done. All that is left to do is to place gravel on the road being built before the monsoon and drive vehicles,’ he said. ‘So far, preparations have been made to drive vehicles from the new track since 15 Asar.’

The flood of Asoj 2081 from Bhakundebensi to Nepalthok along the highway damaged a 30.5 km area. The work has been progressed by making three packages, 3 towards Kavre and 1 towards Sindhuli. Lama-Nawakantipur JV has been awarded the contract for the 11 km section of the highway, which is being constructed in two lanes, from Bhakundebensi to Charsaybensi. Khani-Kamaljit-Awan JV is working on the 9 km section from Charsaybensi to Dalabesi. Both contracts were signed in Ashar 2082.

The contract for the 2.3 km section from Piple to Dalabesi was signed with Uma & Company-Bhandari-Amarjyoti JV in Kartik 2082. The 5 km section from Barkhe Khola to Nepalthok falls in Sindhuli. The contract for this section has been awarded to Kharidhunga-Ghising-Kshitij JV. According to the agreement, the work on all sections should be completed within 2 years. Parasmani Hamal, the head of the Road Division, Khalte, Sindhuli, said that work is underway to ply vehicles on the new track in the Sindhuli section even before the monsoon starts.

The work on the 120-meter section under Aapghari has not yet been completed. He claims that arrangements will be made to ply vehicles during the monsoon season even if boulders are placed there. He says that since the manpower and machinery are ready for the monsoon season, it will be easy to work immediately if any problems arise.

A 3.2-km road is being constructed with a grant of Rs 2.6 billion from Japan. Its construction should be completed by Mangsir 2084. The construction contract has been taken by the Japanese company Shimizu Corporation. Work is being done to ply vehicles on the new track and the concerned offices have been asked to prepare to prevent problems during the monsoon season, said Ashish Gajurel, chairman of the Infrastructure Development Committee of the House of Representatives.
