The 19th city council of Bharatpur Metropolitan City has presented a budget of Rs 5.51 billion 7.23 billion for the coming fiscal year.
The budget presented by the acting mayor of the city, Chitrasen Adhikari, estimates that Rs 2.17 billion 7.3 billion will be raised from internal revenue. The budget for the current fiscal year is Rs 5.22 billion.
Presenting the policies and programs at the city council, acting mayor Adhikari said that due to low capital expenditure in the last fiscal year, development construction has slowed down and the revenue collection target has also been hit. He argues that this is due to the damage caused during the Genji movement, the House of Representatives elections, the Iran-US war and the increase in fuel prices.
The city has set a target of Rs 1.80 billion for internal revenue in the current fiscal year. Adhikari said that only Rs 1.25 billion 6.7 million has been collected till Jestha.
About 70 percent of the target has been achieved in 11 months. Acting Mayor Adhikari said that the budget has adopted the slogan of 'sustainable infrastructure, the basis of growth'. The budget includes programs such as establishing a GIS-based information system and a waste treatment center under the PPP model. Acting Mayor Adhikari also said that Rs 140 million has been allocated for the construction of a cricket stadium under construction in Rampur. The policy and program include issues such as continuing the program to build a fence with a foundation to prevent wild animals in the settlements adjacent to the park, building a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital in Ward 15, and continuing the work to build a bicycle lane in Bharatpur. The promotion of bicycles is a plan that the metropolis is interested in. The policy and program mentions that a bicycle act will be prepared to promote cycling and develop Bharatpur as a bicycle city. Adhikari said that this is the last budget of the current term of the people's representatives. Adhikari, who was the deputy mayor after Renu Dahal resigned from the post of mayor and ran in the House of Representatives elections held in Falgun last year, is the acting mayor.
