The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry has drawn serious attention to the recent preparations to cut off power lines and arrest industrialists in about 700 industries established in 10 industrial zones operated by the Industrial Zone Management Limited under the Government of Nepal.

The Industrial Zone Management Limited itself has filed a review case in the Supreme Court and the High Court on the decision of the esteemed Supreme Court and the High Court regarding the dispute over the increase in land rent in the industrial zone on various dates as per the decision of the board of directors.

'In a situation where the case is legally pending and the industrialists have not been provided with a clear description of the rent rate even when they have demanded it, suddenly asking them to pay the arrears within a short period of 7 days and cutting off the power lines of the industry on the same pretext and exerting unnecessary mental pressure that hinders the operation of the industry is against the rule of law and business etiquette,' the federation said in a statement.

The federation stated that it is the primary responsibility of the state to encourage and protect manufacturing industries to keep the sluggish economy moving. It has also been stated that the Industrial Area Management Limited has the responsibility to support and facilitate the smooth operation of industries.

'At a sensitive time, it cannot be justified from any perspective to cut off the power lines of industries, halt production and create a situation where the industry itself has to be closed. Such a step will demoralize domestic investors and discourage domestic and foreign investment,' the federation said. 'It is everyone's responsibility to encourage and protect the production and productivity of industries.'

The federation has also asked the government, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Industrial Area Management Limited to immediately stop all activities that will not disturb the industries and stop the flow of production.

The federation has urged the government to find a scientific and practical solution to land rent only through dialogue and consensus, respecting the legal process. 'We inform you that the federation is also ready to play the role of a facilitator to resolve this problem,' the statement said.
