Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal has said that the culture of 'detaining' businessmen should end. In a budget discussion organized by the chamber, President Agrawal said that the trend of detaining businessmen based on suspicion should end. He said that arrests made during the investigation without proving an economic crime will have a negative impact on the investment-friendly environment. He said that a policy of 'hearing first, taking financial action if the crime is proven' should be adopted. 'When police make arrests during the investigation without proving any crime in the economic sector, it creates fear in the entire industrial and commercial investment-friendly environment. It is very important to maintain dignified boundaries in this sector. It is necessary to adopt a policy of hearing first and then taking financial action if the crime is proven. The word 'detain' itself should be deleted from here. For this, anticipatory bail should also be provided in the law,' said President Agrawal.
Stating that businesses are in a state of panic due to the interference of many agencies in the same sector, Agarwal said that the concept of 'one sector, one regulator' should be implemented.
He said that the provisions related to money laundering have currently created panic in the private sector.
