The Gandaki Provincial Government has stated that it has set a target of doubling international tourist arrivals within the next 5 years. Minister for Economic Affairs Jeet Bahadur Sherchan made the announcement while presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 in the Provincial Assembly on Monday. He said that special emphasis will be placed on tourism infrastructure, publicity, expansion of air access and promotion of cross-border tourism to increase tourist arrivals. The provincial government has allocated a budget of Rs 2 billion for the tourism and industry sector. Minister Sherchan has announced that infrastructure development, construction and upgrading of trekking routes and expansion of tourist-friendly services will continue in major tourist destinations. The government has also continued the 'Pahila Ghardesh: Ani Paresh' and 'Lake to Lake' programs to promote domestic tourism. The tourism promotion campaign will be launched in collaboration with the provincial government, tourism board and the private sector. The government plans to develop Pokhara as a center for meetings, conferences, health, sports and adventure tourism, making the 'Let's Go to Gandaki: Enjoy Nature and Culture' campaign more effective.
The budget has given priority to the construction of a religious tourism circuit connecting Damodarkund-Muktinath-Galeshwor-Panchkot-Ridi-Ramdi-Keladighat-Devghat-Triveni Dham. Basic infrastructure will be expanded on the related trekking routes. It has been said that the construction of a religious trekking route connecting Modibenidham to Pukot and Bhairavsthan in Parbat will also be taken forward.
The budget mentions that the cycle trekking routes in Manaslu, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Dhorpatan regions will be upgraded and alternative routes will be identified and promoted. The government also plans to increase domestic tourism by conserving Buki and building a reservoir in Dhorpatan.
The 'Round Fewa: View Fewa' program will be continued and the 'closed circuit' route around Fewa Lake will be completed, Minister Sherchan said. The construction of the Fewa Horizon Pedestrian Trail (Selfie Trail) and the glass bridge at Rupatal will also be taken forward. Rs 50 million has been allocated in partnership with Pokhara Metropolitan City for the beautification of the central area of Fewa Lake.
Local culture, homestays, farmstays and indigenous products will be branded and standardized under the 'One District: One Tourist Destination' concept. The government says that the tourist information center, tourist police and emergency rescue service will be further strengthened.
Budget has also been allocated for the construction of an information technology park in the tourism capital Pokhara region as per the 'Let's join technology: Turn to prosperity' concept targeting the youth.
Along with tourism, the budget has also given priority to industries based on local resources and raw materials, entrepreneurship development, skill-based training and employment creation. Minister Sherchan has allocated Rs 2 billion for the overall development of the tourism and industrial sectors.
