Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has stated that all preparations for the 24th Annual General Meeting and 8th Convention to be held on Friday have been completed. IPPAN has drawn serious attention to the misinformation and misleading propaganda being spread against the organization as the election process is in its final stages.

IPPAN, which was established in 2057 BS, currently has 683 members. According to the Statute-2078, the election schedule has been published, the registration of candidates and the publication of the final list of names have been completed, and the election process will be taken forward after the closed session tomorrow, the organization has stated.

According to IPPAN, 6 office bearers, including a Deputy Secretary General and five secretaries, have been elected unopposed under the election process, while voting is certain to be held for the remaining posts as there are more candidates than required. The organization claims that the propaganda that the election is illegal when the final list of candidates has also been published is baseless.

The organization has already stated that the decision to present the proposal regarding the amendment of the statute in the upcoming general meeting was unanimously taken by the working committee. The organization has objected to the accusations that some of the people who participated in and signed those decisions are now accusing ‘IPPAN of holding illegal elections’ and ‘the decision of the general assembly of the federation has been overturned by the working committee.’

According to a statement issued by IPPAN President Ganesh Karki, it was decided to hold the annual general assembly and convention as per the existing statute after concluding that it was not possible to go to the federation immediately due to the legal complications and administrative procedures related to the formation of the federation. Along with that decision, preparations are being made to take the statute amendment proposal for discussion at tomorrow’s general assembly.

According to the proposed amendment, the provision that the senior vice-president automatically becomes the president will be removed, and provision will be made for at least one term in the working committee to be able to run for the post of president. In addition, a new 27-member working committee structure has been proposed.

IPPAN has claimed that all decisions regarding the general assembly, convention, election and statute amendment were made unanimously and no member expressed a dissenting opinion. IPPAN has urged members not to be misled, saying that false information is being spread with the aim of tarnishing the image of the organization when the election process is underway.

The organization has requested all members to attend tomorrow's general meeting to participate in the federation-related proposals, statute amendments, and election process.
