While the opposition is accusing them of manipulating tax rates, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has challenged them to prove it. In a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Finance Minister Wagle has challenged anyone to make public the evidence if they accuse anyone of importing vehicles in a hurry to gain unfair benefits or causing damage to revenue.

‘It is nonsense to say that a notice has been given that taxes are increasing.’ Proof of that should be presented. If someone has passed a vehicle in a hurry that causes a loss of tens of crores, bring the evidence. If there is any paper evidence, any communication or correspondence details, bring them all. I am ready to stand in the court. Talk of billions and trillions has been spread around. Not two billion, if Swarnim Wagle has committed any misdeed of even two rupees, I am not only the Finance Minister, not only the MP, but I am ready to give up public life. This is my challenge,’ he said. He also said that all people in public life need to maintain the same level of ethics and accountability. He said that decisions related to budget and tax policy are made keeping in mind economic principles, a progressive tax system and long-term economic interests.
