The sixth edition of Himalayan Travel Mart 2026 has started in Lalitpur from Monday with the aim of promoting Nepal's tourism sector internationally.
More than 100 international delegates from 27 countries are participating in the event, including 75 global buyers and representatives of more than 80 exhibiting organizations.
Organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter, the main theme of this year's mart is 'New Frontiers in Tourism'. The event aims to expand business relations between Nepal's tourism professionals and international buyers and discuss new possibilities and trends in tourism.
Addressing the inaugural session, Suresh Singh Budal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PATA Nepal Chapter, said that the global tourism industry is changing rapidly and Nepal should take the growing demand for sustainable, regenerative, health and wellness-based and authentic tourism experiences as an opportunity.
He mentioned that Nepal's natural beauty, cultural heritage and spiritual significance have given the country a special place in the global tourism market. 'We want to develop sustainable, inclusive and community-friendly tourism,' he said.
CEO Budal informed that the 'HTM Insight Forum' has been launched from this year by transforming the traditional one-day conference. He said that the forum will create an environment for in-depth dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders in the tourism sector. He said that Nepal's greatest asset is the hospitality and friendly behavior of the Nepali people, and this characteristic leaves a positive impression on foreign tourists.
Stating that Nepal is one of the world's leading adventure tourism destinations, he said that activities such as trekking, mountaineering, rafting, paragliding, mountain biking have established Nepal as a center for adventure tourism. He informed that the discussions to be held under the
mart will cover topics such as adventure tourism, sustainability, wellness tourism, MICE tourism, destination weddings, digital payment systems and renaissance-oriented tourism. The
program is expected to help expand international partnerships, create business opportunities and further strengthen Nepal's presence in the global tourism market.
