The government has announced a special initiative to confidently usher Nepal into the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The budget for the upcoming fiscal year presented by Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle in the federal parliament on Friday includes various programs in this regard.
The budget announced the establishment of the country's first sovereign AI compute in Syuchatar, Kathmandu. 'For this, the government will purchase thousands of AI processing units,' Wagle said, 'clean hydroelectric energy will be converted into high-value AI compute services.' He said that AI and startups will be provided with subsidized computer capacity.
The government has set a goal to use Nepal's immense energy power to create a foundation for skilled employment, digital exports and AI-based economic transformation through the use of AI.
Finance Minister Wagle also said that in the coming fiscal year, at least 15 researchers who are making international reputations in the field of AI will be awarded prestigious fellowships and invited to return to Nepal to contribute. He said that high priority will be given to subjects such as mathematics, which will play an important role in the era of AI.
