Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has expressed doubts about the completion of the new phase of structural reforms despite the wording and presentation of the budget statement appearing very new and attractive.
Bhattarai, who is based in his home district of Gorkha, has responded that the budget is more attractive to the new technology-friendly generation, the private sector, Nepalis living abroad, and employees.
‘After a long period of confusion and suspicion, the construction of the Budhi Gandaki project through an empowered authority as I initially proposed has given some satisfaction,’ he wrote on the social network Facebook, ‘But if we go deeper and look at the overall structural framework of the budget (income-expenditure ratio, revenue sources, sectoral allocation, fiscal federalism), the disruption in continuity is not very visible.’
Expressing doubts about the completion of the new phase of structural reforms as mentioned in the budget statement, he wrote at the end, ‘Nevertheless, best wishes .’
Bhattarai has been at his ancestral home in Belbas, Khoplang, Palungtar Municipality-1 for the past few days . He also said that it was an exciting experience to sit in the courtyard of the house and listen to the Finance Minister’s budget speech .
