An award worth $30,000 (approximately Rs. 4.6 million) has been established to encourage individuals and organizations that contribute to the development of Nepal's mountaineering sector and the mountain community. The award was jointly established by Everest Alliance Nepal and China's prestigious Gonature Outdoor Sports Group Company Limited. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the award on the occasion of the Everest Summit Summit held recently in Kathmandu. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Zhao Le, Vice President of China's famous outdoor brand Pellet, and Sudarshan Nepal, President of Everest Alliance Nepal. This is the largest award ever established in Nepal in the alpine and mountaineering sector. The total prize of $30,000 will be divided into three parts and awarded to the winners individually or institutionally at the rate of $10,000/10,000 (approximately Rs. 1.5 million/1.5 million). Everest Alliance Nepal Chairman Nepal said . According to him, a high-level jury consisting of one Nepali and five international experts will be formed for the impartial selection of the award winners . The award will be officially distributed during the 'Third Everest Summit 2027' to be held in Nepal next year .

Nepal Mountaineering Association Chairman Fur Gyalje Sherpa said that such a large amount of award has never been given in the tourism sector . 'The amount of the 'International Everest Award' to be given by the Nepal government on the occasion of International Everest Day is only 100,000 rupees, which was considered the largest so far . This recently announced award of 30,000 dollars will be the biggest and most prestigious award in the history of Nepal's mountaineering sector,' said Chairman Sherpa.

The Everest Summit 2026 was held on Wednesday to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the historic event when humans first set foot on the summit of Mount Everest. More than 176 climbers from 26 countries gathered in Kathmandu for the 'Everest Summit 2026', organized to commemorate the ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on May 29, 1953. The award was announced at a conference inaugurated by President Ram Chandra Poudel.
