The import of electric vehicles from the Birgunj border, the main entry point for vehicle imports, has increased significantly in the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to the office's data, the import and revenue collection of most EVs has increased in the same period of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the fiscal year 2081/82. Overall, the import of electric vehicles has increased by one and a half times, while the revenue collection from the import of these vehicles has increased by about two and a half times.

Similarly, the import of electric motorcycles and scooters has also almost doubled. Last year, 4,834 electric motorcycles and scooters were imported, which has increased to 8,867 in the current fiscal year. Imports of three-wheelers have also increased. Last year, 1,133 were imported, but this year, 1,654 were imported.

Hari Gautam, President of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says that consumer attraction towards electric vehicles is increasing in Nepal due to rising prices of petroleum products and expansion of charging infrastructure.
