The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has initiated an open competition for the appointment of vacant positions of the Electricity Regulatory Commission. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha on Wednesday formed a three-member recommendation committee to select the commission's officials through a ministerial decision.

The committee, formed under the coordination of the Ministry's Secretary Chiranjivi Chataut, includes Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Sagar Raj Gautam and energy expert Satish Narayan Joshi.

The committee has announced that it will invite applications for the four member posts, including the chairman, of the Electricity Regulatory Commission through open competition. The ministry has stated that a public notice will be issued for this with a deadline of 15 days.

The commission is leaderless after it was automatically relieved of its duties as per the 'Special Provisions on the Dismissal of Public Officials Ordinance 2083' issued by the government. Earlier, the commission had Ram Prasad Dhital as its chairman and Madhusudhan Adhikari, Jhamak Prasad Sharma, Gautam Dangol and Bhagirathi Bhattarai Gyawali as its members.
