Two contracts signed last year to blacktop the road from Talubagar in Jajarkot to Tripurakot in Dolpa have been stalled since the agreement was signed.
Bheri Corridor Office Jajarkot signed the contract for two sections, Tallubagar-Triveni and Triveni-Tripurakot, and it has been almost a year since the agreement was signed. CAB Construction Pvt. Ltd., which was given the responsibility of Tallubagar-Triveni under the first section, had signed the agreement for Rs 886.2 million in Asoj 2082.
Initially, the construction company worked for some time in the middle of the Tallubagar-Triveni section, but now the construction has been stopped. Company engineer Supendra Shakya said that the work was stopped citing the increase in the price of petroleum products and problems in transporting crusher machines. 'Now we are bringing the machines, we will start the work before the rains start,' he said.
Although the work on the first section has started some time ago, the work on the second phase has not yet started.
The Mainachuli-Sisne JV, which was awarded the contract for the Triveni-Tripurakot section at a cost of Rs 85 crore, has not deployed a single worker on the site even after nine months despite signing the agreement in 2082 Shrawan. The company's engineer Devendra Ghimire said that the site office will be opened in Khadang soon and the work will start.
Although the work on the strategically important road, which is geographically the largest district of Nepal and the north-south connecting road, has been stalled, no one has paid attention to restarting it. This corridor connects China-Nepal and India.
Karnali Provincial Assembly member and former minister Bir Bahadur Shahi said that it is sad that two major road projects linked to the road dream of Dolpali have been left stranded for almost a year. He said that if the contract is not started immediately due to various excuses, he will draw the attention of the provincial and federal governments through the Karnali Provincial Assembly.
The Bheri Corridor upgrade, which was opened in 2075 BS, has become uncertain due to the contractor, and the locals have demanded that the work be resumed quickly. The Bheri Corridor Office has stated that the contractor has been indifferent despite repeated requests. Information Officer Girish Nandan said, 'We have repeatedly requested, but the work has not been done, now we will take legal action.'
