The tower (pole) of the Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV electricity transmission line has fallen within three months of its operation.

The transmission line, which was charged at a substation in Subbakuna, Birendranagar Municipality-11, Surkhet, collapsed due to a storm a few days ago, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority Surkhet. According to the authority, two towers in Banke Chisapani, which were damaged by the storm, collapsed on Saturday. Electricity transmission has been stopped after the tower collapsed. Kiran Khanal, Chief Engineer of the Electricity Authority Surkhet, said that it will take a month to build the pole. 132 kV electricity tower collapses in three months

According to Ravi Kumar Chaudhary, Chief of the Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV electricity transmission line project, a 38-meter-long and three-meter-thick tree from Sal has fallen. He said, 'A tree larger than the tower fell and hit the pole. The pole also has a certain capacity.' He says that since there are many such trees in the park, such a problem may arise again.

Only trees within 18 meters of the tower are allowed to be cut in the park. Chief Chaudhary said that this tree came from 30 meters away.

Currently, electricity is being supplied to Surkhet through the old line Kohalpur-Surkhet/Lamki 33 kV in this area. The NEA has stated that the transformer, distribution line wires, etc. are overloaded due to electrical load due to very low voltage in the 33 kV system. According to the NEA, until the 132 kV line is re-operated, electricity may be irregular due to problems such as low voltage.

Meanwhile, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has expressed concern over the incident that affected the electricity supply in Karnali Province after two 132 kV towers in the Chisapani area of Banke under the Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV electricity transmission line collapsed and directed the concerned bodies to expedite the repair and investigation work.

Minister Shrestha's secretariat is coordinating with the concerned offices to reconstruct the towers and restore electricity. Two towers were completely damaged when trees fell during the storm.

After the incident, the NEA has also formed an investigation committee under the coordination of Grid Operations Chief Raman Raj Sharma. According to the NEA, RS Infra Company was responsible for the construction of the damaged towers. Due to the current damage, the foundation of the tower has to be rebuilt and it is estimated that it will take about three weeks to complete the repair and restoration work.

After the disruption of the 132 kV line, limited electricity supply has been started through the old 33 kV transmission line as an alternative to resume electricity supply in Karnali Province. But it is said that electricity service is being affected due to the low capacity of the line.

The Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV transmission line is an infrastructure project built with the aim of solving the long-term electricity problem of Karnali Province.
