The government has put forward a policy to promote local income generation and employment by linking community-run homestays with the tourism sector.

The policy and program presented by President Ram Chandra Poudel in the federal parliament on Monday states that the economic empowerment of marginalized and Dalit communities will be emphasized by integrating local art, culture and traditions with tourism.

Under the tourism program, a plan has been made public to promote the 'living museum' concept and link at least 5,000 new homestays with the Nepal Homestay branding to the booking platform.

The government has stated that through this program, it aims to expand rural tourism, preserve local culture and make community-based tourism more effective.
