The impact of the increase in the price of petroleum products in the international market has also started to be felt in Nepal. As fuel prices have increased due to increasing tensions between the US and Iran, the consumption of all types of fuel has also decreased.

Nepal Oil Corporation Madhesh Provincial Office Amlekhgunj has stated that there has been a decline in the sale of petrol and diesel recently. The corporation's Amlekhgunj depot supplies and distributes the largest amount of fuel in the country.

According to the office, the depot alone used to sell an average of five thousand kiloliters of diesel and two thousand kiloliters of petrol daily in the past, but now the sales have decreased. Office Chief Ashok Sah admitted that there has been a decline in fuel sales recently. "In recent days, an average of 3,500 kiloliters of diesel and about 1,000 to 1,500 kiloliters of petrol are being sold daily," he said. "Under normal circumstances, 5,000 kiloliters of diesel and 2,000 kiloliters of petrol were sold daily from the Amlekhgunj depot."

Similarly, he said that the sale of kerosene has also decreased sharply. Earlier, 100 to 200 kiloliters of kerosene were sold two days a week, but now only one tanker of kerosene is being sold a week, he said. Kerosene is consumed especially by construction entrepreneurs. Recently, construction projects have also been directly and indirectly affected by the increase in fuel prices.

The Amlekhgunj depot has a storage capacity of 17,748 kiloliters of petrol and 25,843 kiloliters of diesel. The storage can last for seven days of petrol and four days of diesel.

Sah said that there is currently no problem in importing petroleum products from India. According to him, 11,000 kiloliters of petrol and 24,000 kiloliters of diesel are being imported from the Indian Oil Corporation through the pipeline in one phase.
