A delegation led by NADA Automobile Association of Nepal President Surendra Kumar Upreti met with Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav and discussed the issue of making stickers with maximum retail price (MRP) mandatory on automobile products.
During the meeting, President Upreti expressed confidence that the system would make the production and import business more organized, clean and transparent, and increase government revenue. 'This will encourage entrepreneurs who are officially operating businesses,' he said, 'NADA is ready to cooperate with the government's long-term policy.'
He informed that four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles are currently being produced in Nepal through the CKD model and tires, lubricants and batteries have also started being produced domestically.
Minister Yadav said that the suggestions raised by NADA are worth considering and indicated that it can be postponed for some time considering the practical aspects. 'We will move forward by solving the problems seen now, and then we will decide how to implement it,' she said.
In the discussion, it was pointed out that in the case of automobile spare parts, the issue of affixing MRP stickers on hundreds of goods coming in a single box is practically complex. Businessmen said that the system of affixing stickers at the customs yard would also be difficult to implement due to the lack of bonded warehouses.
NADA Vice President Abhik Jyoti said that NADA itself first presented the concept of MRP and stickers to the government.
Earlier, the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection had decided on Chaitra 30 to implement a system that requires MRP to be mandatory on all goods imported from abroad, that bills should be issued when selling, and that permanent labels with clearly visible price, batch number, weight and expiration date should be placed on the packaging during production.
