Cargo handling service to Nepal, which had been suspended for two decades from the railway station yard in Raxaul, an Indian city bordering Birgunj, has resumed from Wednesday. Indian Railways' sister organization Konkor has resumed the service for Nepal from Monday.

Jagdamba Enterprises located in Parsa-Bara Industrial Corridor has directly handed over 90 containers of sponge iron imported from Jamshedpur Tatanagar in Jharkhand, India, to Konkor from the railway station yard in Raxaul.

According to Konkor's officer Vishnukant Chaudhary, Konkor provided the transportation service from its own railway racks and containers and directly handed over the imported goods to the importers at Raxaul Railway Station. In this way, a dedicated lane (road and gate) has been provided for the green channel number 4 at the Indian Integrated Security Check Post (Land Port Authority) in Raxaul for transporting the goods to be handed over to the Nepali importer at the Indian railway station itself by a cargo truck and entering the Nepal customs point.

Lane number 10 of the post has been provided for the truck to enter the Integrated Security Check Post in Birgunj. Through this dedicated lane, the Nepali side has got an easy and fast way to bring their goods to Nepal at the Indian railway station. Unlike other cargo vehicles, these vehicles do not have to wait in queues for hours. Due to this, Nepali importers will be able to enter the Nepali customs point directly from India and will be able to get their goods quickly and send the container back to the Indian Railways as soon as possible, which will also save additional fees to the Indian Railways and shipping line companies.

In this way, goods imported by Nepali importers from India and third countries will enter Nepal easily and the transportation cost will also be reduced, says Hari Gautam, president of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ‘This is a welcome move,’ he said, ‘It is a great relief for Nepali importers to get their goods inspected and returned to their containers as soon as possible.’

Konkar official Chaudhary said that for the first time on Wednesday, Konkar transported 90 containers of sponge iron from India to Nepal in its own railway racks and containers, and now the work of providing such a transportation service to goods imported by Nepali importers from third countries is in the final stages.
