Experienced climber Phur Diki Sherpa is preparing to climb the world's fourth highest mountain, Lhotse (8,516 meters), in the shortest time in the spring of 2026. She is one of the first solo women (widows) to successfully climb Mount Everest.  

At a press conference organized in Mahakal, Kathmandu on Saturday, Sherpa announced her plan to reach the summit from Lhotse Base Camp and return to the base camp within 24 hours.  

At the program, MP Mingma Gyabu (David) Sherpa expressed his best wishes for the success of the expedition, noting that Nepal, as a country of mountains, has the potential to teach the world and expressed his best wishes for the success of the expedition. Nepal Mountaineering Association President Phur Gelje Sherpa said that the Sherpa community has made a significant contribution to making the country known to the world.  

Ward Chairman of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4, Laxman Adhikari, wished the Sherpa success and expressed his commitment to support the rights of single women on behalf of the rural municipality. Senior tourism entrepreneur and Chairman of Asian Trekking Pvt. Ltd., Ang Tshiring Sherpa, also wished the campaign success.  

The 51-year-old Sherpa announced that she would dedicate this climb to the memory of her late father, Ang Ngima Sherpa, and friend Iman Singh Gurung. She said, ‘My father’s dream of climbing Lhotse remained unfulfilled, and I embarked on this expedition to fulfill it.’

Phur Diki Sherpa has so far successfully climbed Everest (2019), Amadbalm, Himlung Himal (leading a female team), Island Peak (2 times), Lobuche Peak (8 times), Mera Peak, Chulu Far East, Pokalde, Paldor Peak (leading a female team), and other mountains.  

She has taken basic, advanced, and double advanced training from the Khumbu Climbing Center. She has also received basic, rock climbing level-1, and high mountain rescue training from the Nepal Mountaineering Association.  

Sherpa informed that she is scheduled to leave Kathmandu for Lukla on April 22. She said that through her expedition, she wants to inspire women that they can achieve their goals even in difficult situations.
