International Wellness Day has been celebrated for the first time in Nepal with various programs. An interaction program with stakeholders was held in Lalitpur on Wednesday, organized by the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) and in collaboration with UK-Nepal Nepal in Business. The organizer stated that hoteliers, wellness experts, private sector, educational institutions and development partners participated in the program.
At the program, HAN President Binayak Shah said that it is an opportunity to establish Nepal as an international destination through wellness tourism. He informed that the United Nations has declared April 15 every year as International Wellness Day and that wellness tourism has been prioritized in the government's 100-day action plan.
On this occasion, a wellness tourism promotion video was released in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. Which aims to promote Nepal in the international market.
Nepal in Business Growth Team Leader Ratish Basnyat informed that the National Wellness Tourism Strategy has reached the final stage and collaboration is underway to make this sector a national priority. Similarly, Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Tourism Board, said that there is a need to develop new wellness packages along with innovation and said that attention should be paid to investment, skill development, certification and branding.
HANKI Working Committee Member Ashlesha Karki said that there is a great potential for wellness tourism in Nepal and that collaboration between the government-private sector-investors is necessary.
In the panel discussion, Dr. Ramesh Poudel said that the lack of skilled manpower is a major challenge, while NATTA General Secretary Yubika Bhandari said that effective results can be achieved through small reforms. Dr. Ravi Sikhavat emphasized on overall experiential service development. The discussion was chaired by Ramkrishna Lamichhane.
In closing, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Indu Ghimire, said that promoting wellness tourism is a shared responsibility of everyone and called for preparations for the 'Wellness Year 2027'.
According to the organizers, International Wellness Day will now be celebrated annually. It is expected to contribute to overall health and prosperity by promoting collaboration, innovation and awareness.
