The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has given in-principle consent to the Department of Transport Management to adjust the fares of public vehicles. The department has stated that the decision to adjust the fares will be made public upon receiving the consent. Accordingly, the department has made public the list with the information on inter-provincial fare adjustments.
The automatic fare system was implemented by a ministerial decision on 31 Chaitra 078, whereby the fares of public vehicles will automatically increase or decrease according to the fluctuations in the price of fuel. Accordingly, the Department of Transport Management has been authorized to adjust the fares of inter-provincial transport in the same proportion if the price of petroleum products decreases or increases by 5 percent or more. Accordingly, the Department of Transport Management has stated that the fares have been adjusted due to the analysis of indicators and changes in the price of fuel.
As per the government decision, the fares of passenger vehicles have been adjusted by 16.71 percent. Similarly, the fares of freight vehicles operating on hilly roads have been adjusted by 21.68 percent and those of freight vehicles operating on Terai roads have been adjusted by 15.75 percent.
