The Ministry of Finance has cut the fuel allowances received by government employees and officials. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said that the fuel allowances have been reduced to save the economy from the fuel crisis.

The ministry has stated that this decision has been taken to maintain austerity in public expenditure due to the sharp increase in the prices of petroleum products in the international market, shortage in supply and failure to collect revenue as per the target in the current fiscal year.

The Ministry of Finance has amended the fuel-related provisions in point no. 49 of the ‘Work Operation Directive, 2081’ by exercising the powers granted by Sections 20 and 24 of the Economic Procedures and Financial Responsibility Act, 2076. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle approved the amendment on Monday.

According to the amendment, secretaries and special category officials who were receiving 125 liters of fuel will now get 70 liters. Joint secretary-level officials who were receiving 100 liters of fuel will now get 50 liters. Ministers and constitutional office bearers will get fuel facilities as per the prevailing law.

The fuel facilities previously available for central-level office vehicles have also been reduced. Offices with up to 30 employees will now get 35 liters of petrol and 50 liters of diesel, while they were previously getting 75 liters of petrol and 100 liters of diesel.

Offices with an additional 50 employees will be provided with 35 liters of petrol and 50 liters of diesel, which was previously getting 75 liters of petrol and 100 liters of diesel.

For every additional 100 employees, 35 liters of petrol and 50 liters of diesel will be available.

For every additional 100 employees, 75 liters of petrol and 100 liters of diesel were previously being provided.
