During the period from Shrawan to Falgun of the current fiscal year, 6,396 units of electric vehicles have been imported. This is 684 units less than the 8 months of the previous fiscal year. The Customs Department has stated that electric vehicles worth 14.95 billion 7.7 million rupees were imported in the eight months of this year. Electric vehicles worth 16.64 billion 3.2 million rupees were imported in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The government has been adopting a policy of promoting electric vehicles to consume clean energy produced domestically and reduce environmental pollution. This is why the import of EVs has increased rapidly in recent years. However, businessmen have been criticizing the policy taken by the government as unstable.

According to the department, the maximum number of electric vehicles imported was 3,672 units of 51 kW to 100 kW. While 3,879 units of 51 kW to 100 kW were imported in the 8 months of the previous fiscal year.

The department has data that 2,198 units of vehicles up to 50 kW were imported in the 8 months of the current fiscal year. During the same period of the last fiscal year, 2,531 units of vehicles were imported. During the last fiscal year, 13,569 units of vehicles worth 31.75 billion 3.6 million rupees were imported.

The government has set a target of increasing the share of private electric vehicles in total vehicle sales to 25 percent and public electric vehicles to 20 percent by 2025. The government has set a target of making 90 percent of private vehicles and 60 percent of public vehicles electric by 2030.
