Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has warned that if any office is found to have revenue leakage, the head of the concerned office will be responsible for it. He said this while giving instructions to the heads of offices under the Ministry of Finance at the Birgunj Customs Office on Friday.
‘The government is no longer like before, no one has the right to leak revenue,’ he said. ‘If such a thing is found to have been done in any office, the head of the concerned office should be responsible for it.’
Finance Minister Wagle also said that the ministry will soon take a decision on the cargo containers that are lying idle at the Birgunj Customs yard without being inspected by importers. He informed that a committee will be formed for this and the unused containers will be managed.
Similarly, he said that the ministry will soon find a solution for the vehicles that have not been inspected at the customs yard. He said that preparations are being made to complete the process and give such vehicles to the necessary government offices or take them to the auction process.
He said that the process will also be taken forward soon regarding the failure of the passenger branch to operate from the Integrated Security Checkpoint in Birgunj. Stating that arrangements will be made to provide immigration services to third-country tourists from here, he said that it would be easier to allow Indian tourists to travel through the old customs checkpoint and third-country tourists through the integrated security check post.
He directed that the shortage of manpower in customs offices would be met, but from now on, he would not work in the old style and instead, all customs work should be conducted through an online system.
He also said that the container X-ray machine, which has been lying idle at the Birgunj customs for two decades, would be put into operation soon. He said that there have been increasing complaints that goods vehicles passing through the customs checkpoint are illegally collected by placing barriers on the highway under various pretexts, and if such barriers are found to be illegal, they will be removed immediately.
Finance Minister Wagle has also conducted an on-site inspection of the Sirsia Dry Port and Integrated Security Check Post premises in Birgunj.
