Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, under the coordination of Joint Secretary Dr. Rajan Bhattarai, has formed a high-level committee under the coordination of Joint Secretary Mohan Shakya to study the status of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and permits for energy-related projects. The six-member committee formed under the coordination of Bhattarai will analyze the current status of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) signed by the Nepal Electricity Authority. The committee will identify policy, technical, economic and legal obstacles in the PPA process. The committee has also been given the responsibility of recommending necessary reforms to make the PPA process more transparent, competitive and in line with national interest in the coming days. The five-member committee formed under the coordination of Shakya will review the status of permits issued by the Department of Power Development. The committee will analyze the status and progress of permits issued to date and identify policy, technical, financial, and legal weaknesses within the permit issuance process.
