The Baggage Handling System (BHS) has been put into operation at the domestic terminal of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi from Wednesday.
Passengers have been relieved after the automatic baggage handling system was installed in the passenger arrival hall of the domestic terminal. Earlier, the bags and luggage transported from the plane by tractor were collected by the staff in the arrival hall before the passengers could understand .
The service was inaugurated by the Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Devchandralal Karna, on Wednesday morning. Karna switched on the system and started it. Immediately, the bags and suitcases of passengers arriving from Yeti and Buddha Air were placed in the baggage handling system. Passengers were happy after receiving their luggage from such a system for the first time.
Gautam Buddha International Airport Acting General Manager Shyam Kishore Sah said that a baggage handling system has been installed to make the arrival hall more convenient under the regular plan of the current fiscal year. He said that this will help passengers landing in Bhairahawa via domestic flights to easily receive their luggage.
According to him, last year, the arrival hall under the domestic terminal was made modern, spacious and well-equipped for the convenience of passengers. This time, a baggage handling system has been installed. ‘The arrival hall will soon be air-conditioned,’ he said, ‘The work of installing AC will start within some time.’
According to the airport, this technology was installed at a cost of 120,793 US dollars. The contract was awarded by inviting international bids. Apart from Bhairahawa, such technology has been installed at Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Janakpur and Biratnagar airports in the country. Acting General Manager Sah informed that this has improved the orderliness of the arrival hall and provided convenience to the passengers.
