Former Education Minister and MP Mahabir Pun's National Innovation Center has sold and distributed agricultural tools worth nearly Rs 1.7 million since its establishment from the Birgunj Agricultural Tool Factory.

According to Ritesh Dev, the center's Birgunj chief engineer, more than 300 units of the corn-threshing machine 'Riser' have been sold so far. The center is selling this tool for Rs 1,500.

This small hand tractor does not require diesel or petrol to operate. This hand tractor, which runs on a lead acid battery, can be used for agricultural purposes, for plowing, spraying pesticides and for transporting goods for commercial purposes. This is the first battery-powered tractor in Nepal.

Currently, 45 people, including all types of manpower, have been employed in the factory. The center has been operating this factory under the responsibility of the Government of Nepal since 1 Magh 2079. The center has said that it has spent about 30 million rupees on the factory operation so far. The amount is Engineer Dev says that the founder of the center, Pun, has collected about 120 million rupees by selling his autobiography.

The agricultural implement factory, which was inaugurated by the then King Mahendra in 2024 BS, was closed in 2049 BS after falling into a state of ailing condition after the changes in 2046 BS. Complaining that the Nepal government has not provided 200 million rupees to operate the factory as promised, Pun, the founder of the center, is on a campaign to raise the money by selling his autobiography.
