The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a special financial assistance package to help its developing member countries mitigate the negative impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia on their economies. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ADB said it would provide such assistance for economic and financial risk management.

Bank President Masato Kanda said the bank would provide immediate, rapid support to member countries to cope with immediate pressures and build long-term resilience. “We will provide financial assistance to ensure imports of essential goods, including oil, and support to stabilize trade and supply chains,” Kanda said. “This will build on our strong history of support in Asia and the Pacific amid global uncertainty.”

ADB’s analysis shows that the conflicts in West Asia have disrupted transportation routes, increasing the cost of goods and delaying their delivery. This has raised significant risks not only in the energy sector but also in the supply of fertilizers and petrochemicals used in agriculture and food production. The bank has warned that this could affect countries with economies dependent on tourism and remittances.

ADB said it is closely monitoring global market volatility and rising inflation. The bank has stated that it is preparing to provide budgetary support to governments to maintain the fiscal balance of the affected countries and protect the vulnerable citizens. For this, the bank has already started discussions with the severely affected member countries on the issues of immediate assistance. The bank has also committed to working with the private sector and other development partners to maintain economic stability.
