Nepal Electricity Authority has issued a letter of intent for the first time to involve the private sector in the transmission sector. The authority has issued a letter of intent for the construction of 400 kV Sheetalpati (Arunhub)-Inruwa, 400 kV Tingla-New Khimti-Sunkoshi-Dhalkebar, 132 kV Dandakhet-Burtibang and 132 kV Ridi-Tamghas double circuit transmission lines.
The authority is going to construct the transmission lines under a rate-based competitive bidding structure. According to the authority, the transmission lines will be constructed on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) model. Interested companies will have to submit their bids by April 27.
The 400 kV Sheetalpati (Arunhub)-Inruwa transmission line will be constructed in Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Bhojpur. The length of the transmission line will be 95 kilometers and 243 towers will have to be constructed. According to the authority, the survey of the transmission line has been completed . After the construction of the transmission line, it has a capacity to supply 4,400 megawatts of electricity .
The 400 kV Tingla-New Khimti-Sunkoshi-Dhalkebar transmission line will be in Koshi, Bagmati and Madhesh provinces . It will be constructed in Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhuli and Dhanusha . After the construction of the transmission line, 4,080 megawatts of electricity will flow . Its length will be 133.99 kilometers and 385 towers will have to be constructed . The authority has stated that the survey and IE of the 400 kV Tingla-New Khimti-Sunkoshi-Dhalkebar transmission line has been completed .
The length of the 132 kV Dandakhet-Burtibang transmission line will be 33 kilometers . The capacity of the 132 kV double circuit transmission line to be constructed in Myagdi and Baglung is 250 MW. The NEA has stated that the survey of the transmission line is in the process. The 132 kV Ridi-Tamghas double circuit transmission line will be constructed in Palpa and Gulmi. Its length will be 28 kilometers. The NEA has stated that the survey of the transmission line is in the process.
This step by the NEA is an important milestone in terms of advancing the competitive participation of the private sector for the first time in the construction of transmission infrastructure, says NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal.
