The Federation of Nepal Builders and Contractors has requested the government to declare a 'construction holiday' until the prices of petroleum products and construction materials stabilize. The request was made on the grounds that the increase in the prices of construction materials including diesel, petrol, kerosene, which are widely used in the construction industry, will put a huge financial burden on businessmen.
'The huge increase in the prices of fuel and construction materials during the development and construction season will put a huge financial burden on businessmen and will increase the infrastructure expenditure, which will definitely increase the financial burden on the public bodies of the Nepal government,' said a statement issued by the Federation's General Secretary Roshan Dahal.
In addition to the huge increase in the prices of fuel materials, the Federation claims that limited importers have created an artificial shortage of bitumen used in road construction by 'carteling' to take advantage of the election.

The statement said, "On the one hand, the price of construction materials will increase in the market and on the other hand, the price index issued by the National Bank is not realistic, so we request that the government declare a 'construction holiday' until the price stabilizes."
