Sujan Malla from Sankhu, Kathmandu, came to Baglung last month to visit Shey-Phoksundo in Dolpa and Rara Lake in Mugu. One day, he and his team traveled to Rara on a motorcycle. The team that accompanied him, including Nikesh Gurung, Bipin Gautam, Ayush Thapa, Rajdarshan Katuwal, and others, were also very happy to embark on the Mid-Hill Highway via Baglung.

They were traveling for the first time on a tourist trip via the Mid-Hill Highway. They said that after studying a lot, they discovered that they could reach those destinations in a short distance while traveling via Baglung. After returning from the trip, they said that it was easy to reach Shey-Phoksundo via this route.

They returned by this route after visiting Dolpa and Mugu in a short time. They said that they also told other friends after returning from this trip by making a 'transit' in Baglung. Nilesh Rajbhandari, a businessman here, who had been looking for two other groups of hotels under his name, said.

After the Mid-Hill Highway touches the districts of Karnali and reaches the far west, those who reach Shey-Phoksundo and Rara Lake have also started choosing this route. ‘I didn’t even know that Rara and Shey-Phoksundo can be reached via Baglung, and I was surprised when tourists who came asked,’ said Rajbhandari, chairman of the Baglung Hotel Association. ‘Nowadays, many tourists are coming here to stay and plan their trip.’ Rajbhandari says that those who come by reserving motorcycles and jeeps have made Baglung their first place to stay and visit.

Tourists from the east, including Chitwan and Hetauda, have started choosing the Mid-Hill Highway when traveling west from the capital. Even those who travel by public bus have started using the Mid-Hill Highway to Rukum and Jajarkot via Baglung. Travelers going to Muktinath and Upper Mustang have also started adding Baglung to their one-night stay.

The Baglung Tourism Development Committee has also started arranging jeep and bus transportation for those who want to make reservations from Baglung, calling it the 'gate of Mustang'. Those who have reached Baglung Bazaar by public transport have also started considering Baglung as a departure point for visiting many places in Dhorpatan, Mustang and Karnali. The hotels here have even written maps to those places.

As the number of tourists increases, dozens of hotels are being added to Baglung Bazaar, Galkot and Burtiwang. In the last four years, half a dozen large hotels have been added in the district, while dozens of medium-sized hotels have also opened. As these hotels have also become standard, tourists have started filling up. Rajbhandari says that around 3,000 tourists who come in groups or sporadically can easily be accommodated in Baglung Bazaar. Some more hotels are under construction here.

President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chandra Prasad Dhakal also said that after the establishment of a well-equipped hotel, people living in Pokhara have also started making Baglung a destination. Arjun Chokhal, president of the Federation of Hoteliers, Gandaki, said that Baglung is becoming a 'transit' for tourists due to the development of the culture of traveling among the general public. 'Recently, the culture of traveling has developed a lot among the youth, and Baglung Kalika, Panchakot and Dhorpatan have increased their attractiveness,' he said, 'There have been more people coming to visit some destinations in Baglung and staying here.'

Dhorpatan and Buki have also increased. They have also started making Baglung Bazaar their first destination. Dhorpatan is located 126 km west of the district headquarters, Baglung Bazaar. According to the data of the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, 30,000 tourists have visited this year in Asad/Shrawan alone, while 18,000 tourists visited last year.

The mid-hill highway has shortened the journey of the people of Karnali to the capital and other places. Since it is possible to go directly to Rukum, Jajarkot, Dailekh, and Dolpa from Baglung, the hassle of going down to the Terai has disappeared. Regular night and day buses are operating directly from these places to the capital via Baglung on the Mid-Hill Highway. Those who have made reservations have also used this section. Travelers staying in Baglung can directly reach Rukum West or Jajarkot the next day and stay there. Some also said that they reach Dolpa from Baglung in the same day and stay there.
