The executive committee meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the largest umbrella organization of the private sector, has been called for March 5 to set the date for the general assembly.

The meeting of the federation's office bearers held on Wednesday decided to convene the executive committee meeting on Chaitra 5 and to fix the date of the general assembly of the central federation and the provincial federation from the same meeting.

Earlier, it was decided to hold the general assembly of all seven provincial federations on various dates from Magh 24 to Falgun 2. However, the Election Commission did not allow the general assembly to be held on that date due to the election code of conduct. Therefore, the federation's president Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the federation has called a meeting of the executive committee to decide when to hold the postponed general assembly.

'The meeting of the office bearers was held on Wednesday, and it has been decided to hold the executive committee meeting on Chaitra 5,' said President Dhakal, 'That meeting will fix the date of the general assembly of the provincial and central federations.'

The federation's statute provides for the central federation's general assembly to be held on Chaitra 28 and 29. The provincial general assembly should be held at least one month before the central general assembly. Thus, there is a provision in the statute that the notice should be issued at least 21 days in advance for the general assembly of the central and provincial federations. Based on this, the executive committee meeting to be held on Chaitra 5 will set the date of the provincial federation by giving 21 days to issue the notice. Sources claim that the date will be fixed so that the general meeting of the center will be held a month after that.

Although the date of the central general meeting is fixed on Chaitra 28 and 29 in the statute, it has been postponed from time to time. Recently, the general meeting that was supposed to be held in Chaitra was postponed to Mangsir due to Covid. This time, sources claim that preparations are being made to set the date so that it can be completed within Baisakh.

This time, the elections for central and provincial office bearers are also being held in the federation. That is why the general meeting of the federation is being viewed as a matter of interest. The candidates for the office bearers have also formed groups and started competing in the election.
