A strong business environment is essential to attract investment and expand trade and economic activities in Nepal, said Udo Eugen Folz, Ambassador of Germany to Nepal and Honorary President of the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI).
Speaking at an interaction with businessmen affiliated with NGCCI and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, NGCCI President Santosh Chandra Kunwar said that the association has been playing a leading role in promoting Nepal-Germany trade and investment for over 35 years. He stressed the need to increase German investment in Nepal, strengthen Nepal-European Union (EU) economic cooperation, and remove the stagnation seen in the agreement on labor and skilled migration.
Ambassador Folz urged Nepali entrepreneurs to actively participate in trade fairs and forums organized in both Nepal and Germany to promote their businesses, and also mentioned the growing attraction of German tourists to Nepal, especially in mountaineering and adventure tourism.
NGCCI outgoing president Anup Bahadur Malla said that although Nepal had positive trade with Germany in the past, it is currently in a deficit. He pointed out the need to resolve challenges related to standards, norms, trade barriers and market access to promote Nepali goods and services in the German market.
NGCCI advisor Gopal Prasad Tiwari presented on the activities that the association has been conducting in Nepal and Germany for the past few years and highlighted the role played by the association in strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations.
In the program, NGCCI vice-presidents Naresh Lal Shrestha and Uttam Bhattarai, general secretary Alex Lal Muktan, treasurer Shubhashish Thapaliya, co-treasurer Gopaldas Manandhar, working committee members Bidhata Shrestha, Rajiv Mangal Joshi and other members expressed their views on visa facilitation, tourism promotion through attracting high-income tourists, market access and export promotion.
The event was attended by Peter Speyer, First Secretary of the German Embassy, along with other officials and more than 20 businessmen.
