Qatar Airways has announced that it will operate limited relief flights starting today, six days after the air crisis in the Gulf region began on Saturday following a joint military strike on Iran by Israel and the United States.
The airline has announced that it will operate relief flights from Muscat to London Heathrow, Berlin, Copenhagen, Madrid, Rome and Amsterdam, and one flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Frankfurt. Nepal is not included in the relief flights. Two Qatari wide-body aircraft have been grounded in Kathmandu since Saturday.
These flights are said to be aimed at transporting passengers stranded at various places to their destinations due to the current situation. Meanwhile, the airline's regular flights have been temporarily suspended due to the closure of Qatar's airspace. The airline has clarified that regular flights will resume only after the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority declares that the airspace has reopened safely.
More information on this matter will be provided at 9:00 am Doha time on Friday. Qatar Airways has urged passengers not to proceed to the airport until further notice.
Affected passengers will be contacted directly regarding their scheduled flight details, travel arrangements and necessary instructions. Passengers are requested to keep their contact details updated on Qatar Airways' official website or mobile app, the airline said, keeping the safety of passengers and crew as a top priority.
Meanwhile, Fly Dubai has resumed point-to-point flights from Dubai to Kathmandu from Wednesday night. There are 7 airlines, including two Nepalese, operating flights between the Gulf and Nepal. Currently, 9 Gulf countries have closed their skies for commercial flights.
