The work on the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel has been halted due to the elections. The project has stated that there will be no work for a few days as the workers involved in the construction have gone to their districts to vote. The tunnel work will be halted from Tuesday to Saturday, said Saujanya Nepal, director of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel Construction Project.
‘Holi has fallen at this time, elections have also taken place,’ he said, ‘A lot of the tunnel work has been completed, landslide control work was being done towards Dhading, now the tunnel work has been halted for a few days.’ He said that work will continue as usual from Sunday. He said that Nepali workers working on the tunnel have gone to vote. The project has also stated that movement inside the tunnel has also been stopped during this period.
The construction of the tunnel began on 4 Kartik 2076. So far, its construction progress is 98 percent. Currently, the work of selecting a service provider company is in the final stage. The process of operating the tunnel will move forward after selecting the service provider. Accordingly, the work should be completed within 42 months of the start of construction.
The main tunnel is 2,688 meters long and the emergency tunnel is 2,557 meters long. The tunnel is being constructed by the Japanese company Hazama Endo Corporation.
